No evidence offered after trial for rape, sexual activity with a child, and ABH

R v M (December 2025)

It was alleged that, whilst a teacher at a school, M sexually assaulted a student. It was then alleged that, several years after they had left the school, they entered a relationship which subsequently became abusive. S denied that any inappropriate behaviour took place whilst the complainant was at school and denied any abusive behaviour during the relationship. Following a hung jury in the first trial, the Crown offered no evidence in respect of all the charges and not guilty verdicts were recorded.

The case was prepared by Nick Kelcey and counsel was David Groome of QEB Hollis Whiteman.
