Wide range of cases
We undertake work in all areas of crime from speeding offences through to serious criminal charges. We regularly represent defendants in high profile murder, violent and sexual crimes as well as complex drug and fraud conspiracies. As recognised leaders in defending allegations of fraud, we have specialist teams dedicated to serious fraud and regulatory prosecutions as well as motoring offence prosecutions and youth court matters.
Many of our solicitors are specially trained in advocacy and are eligible to provide advocacy representation in all of the Criminal Courts. In addition, Ian Kelcey is an approved Trainer of Advocates relating to the cross examination and questioning of vulnerable witnesses. We expect to have a thorough and first hand understanding of the merits of your case whilst also providing the reassurance and continuity. Where required we will also instruct junior or leading Queen’s Counsel at the top of their profession. Over the last 30 years, we have built up an impressive network of connections with specialist criminal barristers’ chambers across the country.
We have developed a nationwide reputation for representing privately paying clients in all fields of work ranging from mainstream criminal offences to Environment Agency prosecutions and charges of sanction breaking. Please ask about our fixed price plans for those not eligible for Legal Aid.
We have defended in some of the most notorious criminal cases of the past decade. We represented Danilo Restivo (R v Restivo) at Winchester Crown Court who was tried for the murder of Heather Barnett. We also represented the only client to be acquitted in the Becky Watts murder trial at Bristol Crown Court. We represented Vincent Tabak (R v Vincent Tabak) who was tried for the murder of Joanna Yeates at Bristol Crown Court.
Over the past 30 years our specialist fraud team, led by Ian Kelcey, has defended in some of the highest profile fraud cases in Bristol, the West Country and as far afield as Leeds and Birmingham. We achieved the acquittal of a client in Winchester Crown Court in what was then the longest running fraud trial in England,(R v Pound & Others), as well as the only acquittal in Birmingham Crown Court of a defendant in a large scale VAT fraud.
Due to the increased willingness to prosecute defendants in sexual cases, we have seen a vast increase in both current and historic prosecutions for all types of sexual offences. We have gained a reputation for proactive advice and fearless legal representation and as result have achieved a high proportion of acquittals.
We have dealt with a high proportion of drug charges ranging from international, large-scale importation of drugs to conspiracies within the UK and also industrial-level growing of cannabis, often achieving success for our clients.
We have a dedicated team of lawyers, overseen by Billy Olaniyi, experienced in representing clients in the Youth Court. We aim to deal with matters in a sensitive and yet robust way where the need arises.
